The Character of Leather**
Here is something important to remember about leather. It is an organic material with natural variations in color, texture, thickness, and weight. This is especially true for the
vegetable-tanned leather that we dye in-shop. Even if we use the same dyes, finishes, and hides to make products, they will not be identical. For you, this means if you order more than one of the same product in the same color, they are not guaranteed to be exactly the same.
Also, leather hides often have markings such stretch marks, bugs bites, scars, and brands. We will always do our best to ensure the best visual appeal of our products, but, because we have a strong appreciation for the individual story of each hide, we reserve the right to create products using leather that has markings that celebrate its distinctive characteristics.
Last, leather will change as it ages. This is especially so for vegetable-tanned leather. Our leather products will often darken, soften, wrinkle, shine and/or wear in time, especially with heavy usage. Seeing leather age is not only a wonderful process to witness, but, because leather can soften and re-mold itself under to the warmth, friction, and body oils your repeated touch, also to facilitate. There are steps that can be taken to bring out the best of the process:
Protect vegetable-tanned leather with a water protectant and conditioner at least once a year. Be sure to test an inconspicuous spot before completely going for it. For suede, make sure to only use products specifically made to protect suede.
Protect chromium-tanned leather with a water protectant and conditioner about every 1 to 2 years.
